The Four Steps to Becoming a Resource Family

Fostering 101

Requirements to Become a Resource Family


  • Reside within 2 hours of A New Beginning Foster Family's Corporate Office
  • 18 years of age or older 
  • Attend 12 hours of free training provided by the Agency
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • 2 References from friends/colleagues
  • Vehicle and valid Driver's License
  • First Aid/CPR 
  • Physical/TB test
  •  Once Approved,

  •  Once Approved, All Resource Families with A New Beginning Foster Family Agency are mandated to have 8 hours of additional training each year which is provided by the Agency.

  • Information on the Resource Family Approval Process which includes:  Background Check, Home Inspections, Family Evaluation and required paperwork
  • Information regarding the foster children placed in the Agency and Trauma Informed Services 
  • Understanding the State, County and the Agency's Policies and Procedures

The Four Steps to Becoming a Resource Family

Anyone 18 and over may apply to become a Resource Family with A New Beginning Foster Family Agency regardless of gender, race, religion, political affiliation, handicap, marital status or sexual orientation. 


Step 1: Orientation/Training 

Prospective Applicants will get information regarding the types of foster children placed, and the resp

Anyone 18 and over may apply to become a Resource Family with A New Beginning Foster Family Agency regardless of gender, race, religion, political affiliation, handicap, marital status or sexual orientation. 


Step 1: Orientation/Training 

Prospective Applicants will get information regarding the types of foster children placed, and the responsibilities of the Approved Resource Family 

 Step 2: Application Materials 

Prospective Applicants will be provided with the application and information needed to complete the process. 

Step 3: Home Inspection 

The Home Inspection will be arranged according to the Prospective  Applicant's schedule. It will consist of a visit by an Agency Social Worker to the home. If it is determined that the  home does not meet the Compliance Regulations at the time of the inspection, a follow-up date will be set to allow the Prospective Applicant time to correct deficiencies found.  
Step 4: Family Evaluation  

Once all of the above steps are completed, an Agency Social Worker will meet with the Prospective Applicant and all family members who reside in the home to conduct a face to face interview. A written report will then be completed and submitted to the County's Central Placement Unit for final approval.

The Four Steps to Becoming a Resource Family

Once the Prospective Applicant has become Resource Family Approved, the home will be eligible to have placement of foster children.

  The Intake Department will contact the Resource Family and provide as much known information regarding the foster child in need of placement. If the Resource Family accepts, the Agency will make arrangements

Placement calls come in 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It is imperative that all Approved Resource Families answer their phone when the Intake Department calls.

Agency Social Workers


Agency Social Workers are the cornerstone in supporting A New Beginning Foster Family Agency’s Resource Families. The Agency Social Workers have weekly face to face visits with the foster children and monthly visits to the Resource Family's home to ensure the child's needs are being met and the home is in compliance.

Agency Social Workers are the cornerstone in supporting A New Beginning Foster Family Agency’s Resource Families. The Agency Social Workers have weekly face to face visits with the foster children and monthly visits to the Resource Family's home to ensure the child's needs are being met and the home is in compliance.  

A New Beginning Foster Family Agency’s Agency Social Workers have extensive training, education, and experience in the field of Social Work and Therapeutic Services. 

The Agency Social Worker and/or Support Staff provides help and support in the following areas:

  • Support in preparing the home for approval and ongoing compliance
  • Matching the needs of the foster children with the Resource Family 
  • The Agency Social Worker  answers questions and provide needed advice and guidance
  • A New Beginning Foster Family Agency is available 24 hours 7 days a week
